WATCH - Feldman on Harris slump: 'She's coming across as a typical politician'

By Tess Bonn 10/7/19 Democratic strategist Andrew Feldman said Monday that the reason Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) is losing ground on her fellow White House contenders is because she’s coming across as a “typical politician,” and most voters aren’t clear on her policy positions.

“People don’t know what Kamala Harris stands for,” Feldman, founder of Feldman Strategies, told Hill.TV during an appearance on “Rising.”

“She’s coming off as a typical politician,” he added. “When you say, ‘Oh I’m going to try to talk about Kamala Harris’ and you’re canvassing at the door — people don’t know why they should vote for her.” A spokesperson for the Harris campaign declined to comment on Feldman's remarks.

Though Harris surged past Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) at one point, recent polling compiled by RealClearPolitics found Harris in fifth place behind South Bend, Ind., mayor Pete Buttigieg, averaging 4.8 percent support.

But Feldman maintained that the California senator still has time to reclaim the momentum she gained from her standout performance during the first Democratic presidential debate, when she confronted front-runner Joe Biden over his record on civil rights.

“She has another shot here in October and then in November debates, but if she can’t have a breakout performance, I don’t see how she can catch these folks,” he said.

Harris is among the 12 candidates poised to participate in the fourth Democratic debate, which is slated for Oct. 15. https://thehill.com/hilltv/rising/464658-democratic-strategist-on-harris-slump-shes-coming-across-as-a-typical
