Feldman Strategies is currently hiring for the below positions, all of which have a central office in Washington, DC., with the option for hybrid work. Completely remote candidates will be considered, but with preference to DC-area-based applicants.

Senior Communications Associate

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Contribute directly to delivering strategic communications results for clients by drafting media pitches and pitching stories to the press; drafting and pitching op-eds and LTEs; drafting memos; leading message development and supporting media trainings; managing client relationships; and more.

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with national and local reporters, columnists, and editors, as well as bookers and producers from across a wide variety of mediums including, print, digital, television, streaming, radio, and podcasts. Regularly meet with reporters to maintain relationships and pitch stories. 

  • Work independently on major communication deliverables for a wide variety of different clients and their principals, including labor unions, voting rights organizations, those fighting for reproductive freedom, Democratic state parties, and a wide variety of other progressive political organizations.

 

  • Work closely with the senior leadership team to support client relations and team management. This may include playing a lead role on facilitating client calls, developing one-on-one relationships with client contacts, ensuring junior staff are taking detailed notes, consistently ensuring all action items are captured and reflected in internal work plans, and collaborating with the project leads to make sure work is moving efficiently throughout the day.
     

  • Track reporters changing beats and outlets and changes in TV schedules, as well as monitor the 24-hours news cycle and proactively identify opportunities to elevate clients’ expertise into the media.  

  • Manage fellowship program with other Associate and Senior Associate level staff, including being their assigned day-to-day supervisor and responsible for their professional development. Take a lead role of first reviews of fellows’ and other junior staffs’ work product, providing edits and assisting with professional development.

Candidate Qualifications

  • 3-4 years of media relations experience in a firm/agency setting, or related positions on campaigns, Capitol Hill, organizations, or news agencies.
     

  • Excellent writing and grammar skills.
     

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
     

  • Excels at multitasking and managing multiple assignments with varying deadlines at once.

  • Strong ability to manage up.

  • Experience managing interns/fellows, or experience with peer-to-peer mentorship is heavily preferred. 

  • Can seamlessly own project management of assigned workstreams. 

  • Passion for communications, politics, progressive advocacy, and the 24-hour news cycle.

  • Have a passion for working, learning, and asking questions in a collaborative, fast-paced, results-oriented environment.

Salary negotiable based on experience, with a salary range of $60,000-$75,000.

Communications Coordinator

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Contribute directly to getting results for progressive clients by; drafting media prep memos ahead of press interviews, developing media press lists, building relationships with reporters, and pitching stories to major TV outlets and local, state, and national print publications.

  • Have a voice on a small team and the opportunity to work on assignments with real substance for a variety of different clients, ranging from labor unions, to health care advocacy organizations, voting rights organizations, and more.

 

  • Strengthen political acumen in a critical election year by supporting strategic communications for political parties and ballot initiatives in key battleground states.
     

  • Gain unique experience, professional development, and career training by working directly with the principal and the firm's other team members.
     

  • Sharpen media literacy by monitoring the 24-hour news cycle and recommending opportunities for elevating clients’ voices and unique perspectives in the news.

 

  • Build project management skills by supporting the organization of multiple work streams across clients.

 

  • Participate in day-to-day communication with clients, including staffing regular client calls, supporting media prep ahead of interviews, and coordinating interviews with clients.

 

Candidate Qualifications

  • This is an entry-level position. Individuals who have at least one year of media relations/press experience in a firm, campaign, Capitol Hill, or organizational setting. This can include substantive internship experience.
     

  • Self-motivated individuals who can work independently and won’t be afraid to share ideas with team members.
     

  • Candidates must have the ability to handle multiple assignments at once while paying close attention to detail.
     

  • Prospective candidates must thrive on delivering results.
     

  •  Strong writing and grammar skills are a must.

 

  •  Candidates must be able to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
     

  • Candidates should have a passion for communications and politics, be looking to learn, and are encouraged to ask questions.

 

Salary is negotiable based on experience, with a base salary range of $42,000-$50,000. 

This is a position with a central office in Washington, DC., with work-from-home flexibility. Candidates based in the Washington, DC area preferred.
